La Carta Canta
hand made paper works, woodblock prints and masks
Ideas in my mind sometimes cluster around main rivers of thought and reflection. Working with paper, making prints and masks, is a process that affords me a trusted path of alternating challenges and realizations, excitement and despair, ideally leading from inconclusiveness and confusion to a tentative clarity, even fulminant sparks of understanding. I intended to harness the energy of the mad furious production rhythms before a parade or performance, and bring it back to familiar and not-so familiar themes to offer my stories. Using as tool that powerful bond holding together fibers of cellulose to form paper, I cast a net to retrieve from the deep some things kept hidden, things I never said to anybody, feelings of apprehension, completion, doom, and atonement.
